General Information for Applicants to the College of Graduate Studies
INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILING APPLICATION

Application
Complete pages 1, 2 and 3 according to the instructions
on the form. (Note information pertaining to application
filing deadlines.) Include your Personal Statement as a
separate attachment.

Application Fee of $50.00
A check or money order in U.S. currency should
be made payable to Thomas Jefferson University. This
fee is non-refundable and will not be credited toward
any other financial responsibilities of the matriculated
student. A request to reapply must be submitted in writing,
accompanied by the reapplication fee of $30.00.

Three Letters of Recommendation
Only one copy of the two-page Reference Form is included herein, so you
will need to print three copies of this form to give to your recommenders.
Complete the top half of side 1 of each Reference Form and forward
along with self-addressed, stamped envelopes to recommenders. (Note
that envelopes are not included in this version, hence you will need
to supply your own envelopes.) Alternatively, the recommendations may
be written on a business or academic letterhead and enclosed in a letterhead
envelope addressed to you (noting on the outside of the envelope that
it is a confidential letter of reference). Request that your recommenders
seal their letters and write their signatures across the flap before
returning the letters to you. Include letters, unopened, with your
other application materials.

Academic Records
Two copies of each official academic transcript are required and should
be forwarded to you in sealed and signed envelopes, then forwarded
unopened with application form and other supporting documentation.
If additional forms are needed, you may photocopy the Transcript Request
Form.

Test Scores
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required of all applicants to the PhD programs and to the Master of Science programs in Biomedical Sciences, Cell and Developmental Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Public Health. Official test scores must be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions, Jefferson College of Graduate Studies.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all
applicants whose first language is not English. (The requirement does
not apply to students whose baccalaureate degrees were earned at accredited
U.S. colleges or universities.)

Acknowledgment Card
Enclose a self-addressed postcard and with your application packet. The
Admissions Office will inform you via this card if any materials are
missing from your file. If all of required documentation is enclosed,
Admissions Office will confirm that application file is complete and
will forward copy of file to appropriate faculty admissions committee
for review.
STANDARDIZED EXAMINATIONS
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is administered by the Educational
Testing Service. The General test measures basic scholastic capability
at the graduate level. The Graduate College requires only the General
test. Subject test score submission is optional but recommended for
some programs. The test code number for Thomas Jefferson University
is 2999.
GRE Information & Registration Bulletins are available
through the Admissions Office, or may be obtained from the
Educational Testing Service, CN 6000, Princeton, NJ 08541-6000.

Educational Testing Service and the College Entrance Examination
Board. The five-part test is taken in a single sitting and
measures the applicant's English language skills in Listening
Comprehension, English Structure, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension,
and Writing Ability. You will need to allow six weeks for
the scores to reach the Admissions Office. The test code
number for Thomas Jefferson University is 2999. For more

WHERE TO SEND YOUR APPLICATION PACKET
All application materials should be sent directly to the Director of
Admissions of the Graduate College; they should not be sent to the
program to which you are applying.

FINANCIAL AID
Financial Aid applications may be completed and returned prior to acceptance
in Jefferson College of Graduate Studies. However, funds will be awarded
only when the student has been accepted and has matriculated. Financial

HOUSING
The Department of Housing and Residence Life comprises three on-campus
facilities: Barringer and Orlowitz Apartments, and Martin Building.
On-campus housing is available for rent by matriculated
students and house staff and their immediate families. Housing
is guaranteed to eligible first-year students who apply before
the deadline date of June 30. Once you have been admitted
into a program in the College of Graduate Studies, the Department
of Housing and Residence Life is notified and will send you
information on housing options. Early housing application
